Suicide bombers are here.

Tue Jul 29, 2008 at 02:54:27 PM PDT

NEWSFLASH: Sectarian enters place of worship, intending to die, kills 2, injures 6, before being overpowered.

Terrorists targeting houses of worship is certainly nothing new. How many times have we seen Sunni blowing up Shi'a, and vice versa, in recent years. Kind of a staple of modern American life.

And we failed to comprehend how these zealots could choose to die witnessing for whatever their particular sect. Suicide bombing just seemed repugnant to the American core.

Obama would not have made this mistake.

Smintheus has an excellent piece on the front page detailing John McCain's response to yesterday's Habeas Corpus ruling by the Supremes. While her criticism is spot on, I have a slightly different take I'd like to share.

In his address to the case today, Senator McCain, among his remarks, said

We are now going to have the courts flooded with so-called, quote, Habeas Corpus suits against the government, whether it be about the diet, whether it be about the reading material. And we are going to be bollixed up in a way that is terribly unfortunate, because we need to go ahead and adjudicate these cases

.

Here's a surprise; Joh McCain is either lying or doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

Let The Band Play Dixie

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 09:47:10 PM PDT

This diary, less the "improvements" every writer always makes to their imperfect attempts at communication, was posted little more than two weeks ago. The time was not yet ripe.  Angrymouse, and others, have added greatly to that ripeness. I thank her, and resubmit for your consideration, my humble thoughts.

Peccavi

Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 10:05:30 PM PDT

I've forgotten which British conqueror of "little brown people" it was, Clive, or somebody like that, who sent the incredibly clever message "Peccavi", an elitist pun, when he captured Sind, a province of the Indian subcontinent. In Latin peccavi means I have sinned. How little he knew.

Tibet, China, and the Olympics

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 05:11:23 PM PDT

We've all recently seen several diaries addressing the current struggle between Tibetan nationalism and Chinese hegemony. By some heretofore unknown corrolary of Godwin's Law, the comments invariably descend into calling for a U.S. boycott of the coming Olympics. I write here to express my unequivocal rejection of that call, as well as to suggest what I consider to be an appropriate course of action for Progressives to follow.

Little Johnny never spoke a single word in his whole life. His family resigned themselves that he would always be mute. Then, one evening when he was seven years old, sitting at the dinner table, suddenly Johnny said "Please pass the salt." His family, shocked that he could talk, asked "Why haven't you ever spoken before?" Johnny replied "Because everything's been alright up til now."

I've been a lurker here at dKos for some time, and for a long time things were going fine without my two cents. As I began to think about gettting involved the silly season began, and I stayed out if only for the sake of my blood pressure. Now that things have calmed a bit I think it's time I seasoned my plate.

This is my first diary.
